Lumbar radiculopathy, also known as sciatica, causes pain in the lower back, legs, and hips due to compression or irritation of nerve roots in the lower back. In severe cases, compression of nerves affecting the bowel and bladder can lead to incontinence or loss of control.
Other common symptoms include:
Sharp back pain
Sharp pain exacerbated by sitting or coughing
Weakness or numbness in the leg and foot
Numbness or tingling sensation in the back or leg
Changes in sensation or reflexes, hypersensitivity
